Kentuck Knob makes every effort to accommodate visitors in wheelchairs. Some parts of the house are wheelchair accessible, but others are not. Here is some information we hope you will find useful.

Visitors are transported up the hill to the house in a shuttle bus, which is not wheelchair accessible. However, you may follow the shuttle bus up to the house in your own wheelchair-equipped vehicle, and leave your vehicle in the courtyard during your tour.

There are 4 shallow stone steps from the courtyard up to the front door. We can place a wooden ramp over these steps to help you up to the wide front door. This ramp requires two men to install, so you must give us sufficient advance notice if you need it.

The living room and dining room are spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair. The hallways and doorways to the kitchen and bedrooms are too narrow for a wheelchair to fit through, but most of these rooms are at least partially visible from the kitchen and main hallway.

If you have a battery-powered wheelchair, we ask that you turn it off during your tour, if possible, and that a friend or relative push the chair through the house instead. This is due to concerns about bumping into furniture, woodwork and valuable artwork.

The living room terrace is too narrow for a wheelchair to navigate, but it is visible through the living room windows. The back terrace is not wheelchair accessible due to insufficient door clearance and a back step without a ramp.

The sculpture meadow is lawn with gravel walking paths which is not wheelchair accessible.

Visitors in wheelchairs are certain to enjoy their tour, even if they are not able to enter each room. If you make reservations, be sure to inform the reservationist that a member of your party has a wheelchair, so that we can plan ahead to accommodate your needs. Please call us at 724-329-1901 if you have any other questions about wheelchair accessibility at Kentuck Knob.
